Halfway Through October

As I was typing that title just now, I thought ....Man, that would make an awesome title for a poem or book. :-)

I guess the English major in me will always think things like that. What my title actually refers to is that I am halfway through my October pictures in the scrapbooking adventure that is my life.

Here's a really cute Halloween layout I finished just the other night.

The patterned paper is by K&Company and so is the cute little button with the pumpkin on it. The paper clips with the Witch and the Ghost are from The Paper Studio, everything else just came out of my existing supplies.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Little Pieces

Though there may not be a million of them (I'm a nerd, I know) here are little pieces of news and other things that have been going on lately in my life, and my opinions on them (which I can assure you...are true :-)

First off, I feel uncomfortable about this whole Nadya Suleman thing. I do feel that it was not in her best interest to have more children after she already had six...but I don't know her full situation, so I'm trying not to judge her.

Something I don't understand is why she would have more children when she couldn't afford the ones she already had. I can understand wanting more children from the aspect of filling your home with love, but to me if you cannot provide fully for your child(ren)....then perhaps you should reconsider having one(or more) until your circumstances have improved.

I think it would be great if she and her Mother stopped arguing and contradicting each other in the news media and instead bond together to form a loving family to care for all 14 of those children. Those children deserve happiness and normalcy too, even if the circumstances that surround them are difficult ones. That's all I have to say about this.

Next, I'm so excited to see the light at the end of the tunnel in my college career! I graduate in August and I could not be happier! While there are days that I trudge to class, I keep telling myself...it's over in August, and that keeps me going!

Have I mentioned how excited I am to be going to BlogHer in July??? Because I'M SO EXCITED!!!! Elaine from the Miss Elaine-ous Life is going to be my roomie (woohoo!) and I just know we are going to have a heck of a good time! If you will also be attending, please leave me a comment and let me know...I'm trying to make a tenative list of all the Gals and Guys I wanna meet! :-)

Also, since I'm a newbie to this whole conference thing, I would greatly appreciate tips from all you seasoned vets out there...are there things I should know? What should I bring/not bring? etc. Any feed back would be awesome! TIA!

Really exciting things have been happening for me and my blog lately, and attending BlogHer is just one of them! I can't wait to tell you more in just a few days (or so!).

Hope you have a fabulous Thursday!

You Capture. Week One Challenge

Photobucket

Beth, over at I Should Be Folding Laundry is doing this awesome photo thingy "You Capture" for the next few weeks! Anyone can join and follow along with their camera's as she gives a new photography assignment each week!

If anyone needs an excuse to see things differently through their camera it's me! I think I tend to get stuck in a rut photography-wise sometimes, so I'm very excited about this!

This weeks assignment was to photograph something you love without using your flash. Well, I must admit that even though I have super nice Canon Digital Rebel, that I have no idea how to use it without the automatic settings (any help offered on this would be greatly appreciated btw! :-)....so when I read the assignment, I panicked.

But then I thought about the best pictures I had ever taken without a flash and I realized that they all had one thing in common, they were all taken outside, and in good light.

So, that's just where I went to snap my pictures of the thing I love. And what or who could it be you ask?

Well, just guess. hehehe.

I am SO pleased with the way these turned out! My heart bursts just knowing that I caught Jackson mid-joy on the swing! Ok, enough Mommy cheesiness......I wanna see your pics too!

Leave a link to them with your comment!

Happy Wednesday!

More lovelies

These pictures were taken at the Texas Renaissance Festival last Sept. **yep. I'm behind** I especially like the ones of the roses! These layouts fell into place pretty quickly, and I'm hoping I can keep that trend going this weekend so that I can get totally caught up.

Hope your week is going well.

Remember Me? The girl that used to scrapbook?

Well, I'm back. Over the past two weeks I have been making layouts like crazy. It's so weird how scrapbooking seems to come in waves for me. As long as I'm getting the layouts done at some point, I'll be a happy mama! Here are just a couple for now, I'll put more up throughout the week!

These two seem to be more simple than I usually do, but I really like them! :-)

What have your been working on lately?

Happy Monday!

Yeah, I'm a nerd...what's it to ya?

Here's proof that I am, without a doubt, a complete English nerd!

This was emailed to me by my hubby, (who is also a huge English nerd!) who had it emailed to him....beyond that we don't know it's original source, but if you happen to know be sure to leave it in the comments, I would love to give it's author their due credit!

Enjoy!
-----------------------------------------

THINK ENGLISH IS EASY?????

1) The bandage was wound around the wound.

2) The farm was used to produce produce.

3) The dump was so full that it had to refuse more refuse.

4) We must polish the Polish furniture.

5) He could lead if he would get the lead out.

6) The soldier decided to desert his dessert in the desert.

7) Since there is no time like the present, he thought it was time to present the present .

8) A bass was painted on the head of the bass drum.

9) When shot at, the dove dove into the bushes.

10) I did not object to the object.

11) The insurance was invalid for the invalid.

12) There was a row among the oarsmen about how to row.

13) They were too close to the door to close it.

14) The buck does funny things when the does are present.

15) A seamstress and a sewer fell down into a sewer line.

16) To help with planting, the farmer taught his sow to sow.

17) The wind was too strong to wind the sail.

18) Upon seeing the tear in the painting, I shed a tear.

19) I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.

20) How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?

Let's face it - English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig.

And why is it that writers write but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce and hammers don't ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

If teachers taught, why didn't preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that run and feet that smell?

How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down, in which you fill in a form by filling it out, and in which an alarm goes off by going on.

English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all. That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible.

PS. - Why doesn't "Buick" rhyme with "quick"

You lovers of the English language might enjoy this

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP."

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver; warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP ;for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP an idea. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take Up a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP. When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

We could go on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so... Time to SHUT UP!

Jackson's New Ride

This weekend I decided that I would unplug and spend some serious time with the hubby and kiddo! That turned out to be a fabulous idea because the weather was gorgeous and we spent tons of quality time together...I feel so renewed after all that fun!

On Saturday we went to the Zoo to test out Jackson's fabulous new stroller from Easy Walker! We received the SKY model about 2 weeks ago, and I had been dying to use it ever since! I can easily say that this stroller is, by far, one of the best that I have ever used!

And, I really have had a lot of stroller experience! We have already owned 4 different ones since we had Jackson and between my babysitting cousins and nieces and nephews etc....I have had the opportunity to sample quite a few more.

The name, Easy Walker SKY, fits this stroller perfectly because using it is like a dream. It was a breeze to put together. I did it by myself (without any tools) in about 20 minutes. The instructions were simple to follow, and included helpful pictures.

I will say that I was a little taken back by the fact that this stroller has tires with tubes (like bicycle tires) and it said in the manual that I would need an air pump (like the kind found at gas stations and auto body shops) to air them up. (Say what you want, but even the most capable woman should leave some things to professionals!) So, I headed over to my local Discount Tire and asked them if they could air up the tires since I was afraid that if I did it myself, I would explode them. After a couple of strange looks ("this is for your stroller, mam???") one of the mechanics there began to air the tires up. Another one of them walked by and said "You know, we could put some nice chrome rims on there for ya!" LOL! They all got a good laugh from that one.

The mechanic told me he was happy to help, that it would be no charge, and then he remarked that this job was probably the strangest he had ever done..... Oh well! So that was easy enough!

Now with air in the tires I was ready to take on the world!

This stroller just can't be beat! It's very light, and it folds up smaller than any standard sized stroller I have used in the past. Another thing that impressed me is that it comes with a vinyl rain cover. I love standard features that feel like a bonus! :-)

And can we talk about that fabulous color?? I just love it! It is so bright and cheery....and it matches my iPod! They have quite a few perky color options to choose from...and for the super fashionable family they offer the "Pimp Your Pram" package, which will allow you to roll around town in complete style.

My husband said one of his favorite things about it was that he could easily pick us out in the crowd at the zoo, and that he could tell that the stroller was very well made just by looking at it (later he noticed a couple of other dads checking it out as well). Is there such a thing as stroller envy? I guess so! LOL!

Easy Walker has a great website where you can check out all the fabulous options and models they offer. I love that their strollers are so versatile and that you can easily stroll with an infant and toddler at the same time without feeling like you're pushing a bus. They also have a great line of accessories like diaper bags and cup holders.... and most of them come in colors to match your stroller!

Overall, I am very impressed with this "ride". It handled very well and Jackson seemed super comfortable all day...so for that I give it an A+!
