Less than a week until school, less than a month until Disney

With such big events approaching, my mind is constantly running like crazy. I'm a big planner so now I'm in the process of making charts and lists for Disney, as well doing quite a bit of research about it online.

School is pretty much squared away. I got a new book bag, which is very artsy and stylish looking and some new notebooks. So yeah, I'm ready.

I'm sad Jackson has to go back to daycare, mainly because I worry the teachers there won't let him nap when he needs to or will force him to eat if he doesn't want to. Strangely, I wasn't worried the first time he went to a daycare (at six months old).

His teacher at that school was SUPER understanding and let Jackson play, sleep, and eat as he wanted too!

I'm concerned about this new school because I didn't choose it, Dave's mom did, and well it seems to me that they expect WAY too much from one year olds. They only get one nap a day, late in the afternoon (which Jackson won't be there for, and he needs a nap in the morning). They have a curriculum (which at this point I could care less about...after all he is ONE and we do teaching at home) that they follow strictly and apparently feel like one year olds need to learn how to walk in a line and eat at a table in the first half of the school year.

Please don't misunderstand my concern and think that I don't want Jackson to grow and develop, I do! I'm just not sure he needs to develop as fast as this school wants him too. It seems to me they want the children to do things a certain way so that it is easier for them (the caretakers) to get through the day.....which doesn't seems right to me honestly.

Jackson will be at this school 2 days a week while I'm at school. In the end, I'm sure I can undo any issues that happen in those two days....but I wish I didn't have to worry about it at all.

Of course, as I've learned, worrying is what being a good Mom is all about! :-)

Have a great week!

  1. Haley, just know that all you thoughts and concerns are valid. You're a good mommy and mean well. Jackson will be fine and believe me- he'll adjust to whatever schedule they put him on. Remember, I am a daycare provider and having structure and a schedule is what's best for everyone. Within the next few months he'll grow out of needing a morning nap. That's more of an adjustment for parents than the kids..lol! He'll do just fine!

  2. I feel the same way about school pushing kids to grow up too fast. I agonize about whether or not I want to send my daughter to school at all. Some days I feel like school will only crush her spirit and other days I feel like I am being selfish by keeping her at home.

*BTW you're blog decor is so cute. I am a scrapbooker as well and I am seriously thinking of overhauling my page now. Unfortunately, I am not so skilled with the HTML. Any advice?
