Lately I have been trying (to no avail) to get Jackson off of pureed baby food and onto little soft finger foods (like Gerber Graduates etc.). He just won't have it. Even foods that he loves pureed like apples and carrots get spit out. I think it is partially because of the texture and partially because he has a fear of aspirating again.
So anyway....I need your suggestions as to how to make finger foods more appealing. I figure you seasoned moms out there will know just what to do! :-)
TIA!

We had the same problem with Bear. We still do to a lesser extent. Some of it was just waiting till he was a little older and had more teeth. Also letting him feed himself with his fingers helped with the chunkier foods. He needed to smush it around a bit before putting it in his mouth. Just hang in there. I promise he will get comfortable with it when he is ready.
ReplyDeleteMy only advice is to just be patient and keep reintroducing these foods on a regular basis. He will eat them when he is ready. I don't know any 5-year-olds still eating baby food only.
ReplyDeleteI think Dawn's right, he'll let you know when he is ready. Maybe you could try something between the pureed foods and finger foods-- cook some sliced carrots, but then mash him up and feed him from a spoon. Get him used to the heavier texture a little bit more slowly.
ReplyDeleteYou could also try giving him things that aren't baby food but resemble it, like applesauce, yogurt, pudding, jello.
lol...I meant "mash THEM up" not "mash HIm up." I certainly don't want you to mash up Baby J!!
ReplyDeleteI'm typing with a wrist brace on so I'm making a TON of typos...lol!
